Problem #1 - 20t gears for the drive train
This is a good real world example of the types of problems an engineer needs to solve.
The drive train is powered two Vexpro WCP SS gearboxes (Option 4 - 54:20). They use 54t and 20t gears. The gears in ours have worn out from use and need to be replaced. We have purchased 54t gears, but 20t gears are out of stock until September.
What do we do? Please be prepared on June 4th to discuss specific options for how to solve this problem. If you suggest purchase from somewhere else, please have a link where they can be ordered. Based on the teams ideas, we will solve this problem together.
Until this problem is solved, both robots are in-operable. So you can understand a solution is needed.
Below is a link to the Vex web
3/8" Hex Bore, 20t gear, 14.5deg pressure angle, 20DP
Problem #2 - Robot redesign
One of our summer projects is going to be redesigning our robot for off season competitions. The drive train will remain, but everything above the drive train is eligible for modification/replacement.
Check out designs from other teams that were successful during the season, nothing wrong with adopting their designs to our robot.
Be prepared to discuss in detail your ideas.
NEW TEAM CALENDAR
Check out the team calendar, it has been loaded with activities thru September! It is also now located on our team's website.
FUN NIGHT TONIGHT!
Tonight is the Fun Night at Josh's house. Details are on the calendar
ROSE BOWL FUNDRAISER
Team parents: 21+ Sign up for the Rose Bowl fundraiser on May 14th and help raise funds for our next season (Last year's budget was $20,000, so we need all the help we can get)
If you can help with this fundraiser on May 14th, please let me know today.
BUSINESS TEAM IS FORMING
Robokong needs to put together a Business Team (BT) right away. The BT is needed to handle the team's finances, prepare budgets, track income and expenses, and producing a business plan. The BT team will be a key element preparing our Entrepreneur Award submission for 2017.
If you want to be on the Business Team, respond to this email right away.
Summer camps schedules are on the calendar. Summer camps are the major fund raiser for our team, raising over a third of our annual budget. But it does not work without your help! We need a minimum on 1 ADULT and 5 TEAM members for each camp.
Team members are required to help with summer camps to raise fund for next season.
Respond to this email and let me know which camps you will help with.
NEW MEXICO CAMPS
This is a pretty cool opportunity for 3 team members. A team in New Mexico has requested our help getting their summer camp program running. Mrs. Sisk and three students will travel to Tularosa NM for a week during June to run the camp. Travel, food and lodging will be provided.
Respond to this email if you are interested in being a part of the event
SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM
Check out the calendar for our summer training program; Solidworks, C++ Programming, and Basic Tools. Class size is limited.
Respond to this email if you will be taking part in the training opportunities.
Our first project this summer will be to prepare SHERMAN for offseason competitions in September. On June 2nd, we will start meeting on Thu and Sat with our first task to plan upgrades for SHERMAN.
